### [VMware HyperArmor: a first look at host-level protection for ESX](https://dirk-janalken.nl/blog/vmware-hyperarmor-a-first-look-at-host-level-protection-for-esx)

Yesterday Broadcom announced VMware HyperArmor, a new layer of protection for the ESX hypervisor in VCF and VVF. I haven't had it in a lab yet, so this post is a read of what has been published so far, plus the questions I would want answered before putting it in a design.

### What it is

### [VMware Explore 2026 recap](https://dirk-janalken.nl/blog/vmware-explore-2026-recap)

VMware Explore 2026 ran August 31 untill September 3 at The Venetian Convention and Expo Center in Las Vegas. A lot of "Explore coverage" floating around right now is really recapping VCF 9.1, which went GA back in May 2026, and vDefend 9.1 features that shipped in release notes and design blueprint...

### [VCF Add-ons Explained](https://dirk-janalken.nl/blog/vcf-add-ons-explained)

As a technologist working with VCF day to day, I keep running into the the question what the addons for VCF look like and what they offer in functionality. The core platform gets you a long way, but there's a whole layer of "advanced services" sitting on top that's easy to gloss over until you actua...

### [VCF 9.1 is here!](https://dirk-janalken.nl/blog/vcf-9-1-is-here)

Broadcom announced VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1 last week, and there is quite a bit to unpack. If you are already running VCF 9.0, you will recognise a lot of the direction here. This release builds on that foundation and has focus on efficiency, security and AI workload support. I’ve tried to cover...

### [When NSX Tunnels Disappear — Understanding and Fixing Hidden Service Failures](https://dirk-janalken.nl/blog/when-nsx-tunnels-disappear)

I guess most people working with NSX are aware of the overlay tunnels, they need to be there to have networks connected to your workloads. After some host reboots to change power settings, we didn't see tunnels coming back online. At fist you might think there are no workloads migrated to the hosts,...

### [TOFU in NSX?](https://dirk-janalken.nl/blog/tofu-nsxt)

The first reaction of one of my collegues was what is that? When you lookup where it is short for it makes much more sense! TOFU stands for "Trust on first Use" and is the opposite of TOEU, which stands for "Trust on every Use".

In NSX the IP addresses on ports are learned by ARP snooping and VMw...
